Everynight, once everyone else has gone to bed, when the moonlight comes to rest gently on drifting leaves outside my window, I find myself with a precious couple of hours that are completely my own. This is a painting inspired by and made during my many late nights. Again it’s a self portrait, but more in the simplified style I tend to doodle in, while continuing my theme of stupidly detailed cloth. This painting used up the last of my beloved cerulean blue, but it was worth it. I’m really proud of the blanket in the lower left. All the little folds and highlights were both a pain and incredibly satisfying.

CD Angel

This is a portrait of myself on Muni, in my favorite jacket, holding Sleeter-Kinney’s Dig Me Out on CD. The idea for the other figure came from a drawing of the Greek goddess Artemis I made when I was about 8, though she no longer really resembles that old pencil drawing. Her robes are based on an ancient Roman sculpture currently in the Chicago Art Institute. I had an absolute blast painting this, though I still ended up working with tiny brushes, working on a bigger canvas than I normally do felt very freeing. I submitted CD Angel to an exhibition! It’s on show at the Drawing Room Annex’s High School Art Show from May 3rd to July 29th 2025!
